Saturday evening the University of Kentucky may see their largest football game tailgate crowd ever, and unfortunately they’ll have to do it with 56 less parking spaces.
Kroger Field has undergone it’s fair share of cosmetic changes since, Kroger purchased the naming rights, but now the changes are beginning to take effect even outside the stadium. Kroger employees spent the last three days installing over fifty conveniently located cart returns throughout the K-Lot (now to be referred to as the Kroger Lot) in preparation for Saturday’s sellout football game against the University of Florida.
“Sure, we’re givin’ up some parking spaces, but if I can park out here and have a shopping cart, I can bring way more bourbon to my rich friend’s tailgatin’ tent,” said bourbon and wildcat superfan Shane Miller.
“Then after the game imma fill up this cart with all the stadium’s leftover nachos, and we’re gonna keep this K-Lot party going,” added Miller before his words devolved into an unintelligible scream that seemed to be “cats” but with a number of extra syllables added in.
“I don’t mind them adding the cart return, in fact I need these carts since they won’t let me bring in my huge purse anymore,” exclaimed Regina Fraley a woman in her 40’s that was already sitting in one of the carts when we arrived. “You gotta have a clear bag now, honey,” she yelled at some female students that passed by on their way to class, since it’s still a school day and everything.
Optimism is a new feeling for many Wildcat football fans, and many are trying to maintain their positive attitude towards the football team when talking about the many changes the stadium continues to undergo. “As long as this team keeps winning and the stadium has that free olive bar, I’m happy,” said pretty much everyone in town.
