Last year, Kentucky was given a grant by the federal government in the amount of $283 million, whose funds were to be allocated to hire around 200 employees and provide an exchange for Kentuckians to participate in programs offered by the Affordable Care Act. The Kentucky-run version of this program was to be called “Kynect” and through a series of misunderstandings, Governor Bevin unquestioningly earmarked this grant to buy 11,324,529 boxes of K’nex® toys.
Bevin responded to criticism by saying, “I thought we were building infrastructure. I already have plans to build a 480-foot-tall Ferris wheel and we’ve been putting K’nex® in potholes for months.” When interrogated further as to how he thought K’nex® would be practical as a construction material, Bevin responded, “No Takebacksies!” and jumped on a life-size plane made of the colorful pieces and flew away.
In unrelated news, construction has been completed on the new addition to the Governor’s mansion in Frankfort, Kentucky (pictured below)
