This past week, Northern Kentucky’s Jeff Ruby Steakhouse offered NKU students free steak dinners if the Horizon League Champions upset the second seeded Kentucky Wildcats. In a move lifted from the holster of Annie Get Your Gun, Malone’s in Lexington offered all UK students and faculty a free steak dinner if the cats go on to win their ninth NCAA championship this year. Now, the Applebee’s on Nicholasville Road is throwing their hat into the ring by offering a full-priced steak dinner to any UK or NKU fans willing to eat it.
“Look man, we’re non-partisan here at Applebee’s, the only sides we want to pick between are garlic mashed potatoes and four cheese mac and cheese.” manager Gary said. “We’re just looking for fans of either school who are willing to come in here and pay a very reasonable price for a ‘steak,'” he added while making virtual quotation marks in the air with his hands when he said steak.
Gary continued, “I can’t stress this enough, we’re not offering a free meal like those show offs in Cincinnatti or at Malone’s, but we are offering a 6 oz. USDA Choice Top Sirloin for $12.99, whether your team wins or loses, you just have to be willing to eat, at least most of it, without sending it back. Some people find it more rewarding to pay for their food than to freeload off the backs of college student-athletes. Regardless, come to Applebee’s and no matter how bad your bracket looks you’ll be feeling good in the neighborhood (at least until your food arrives).”
