Less than one month ago, on November 8th, Republicans took control of Kentucky’s House of Representatives for the first time in nearly a century. Sunday, 27 days after fiscal conservatives took control of the state’s exectuve and legislative branches, Kentucky, unsurprisingly, is headed to the Taxslayer bowl.
Governor Matt Bevin has been proposing tax cuts since he took office, Kentucky seems to have affirmed his plan both by electing a republican house and earning a bid in a bowl that calls not only to cut taxes, but to slay them.
When asked whether accepting an invitation to the Taxslayer Bowl in Jacksonville was a larger political statement coach Mark Stoops said, “to be honest, I thought it was just a bowl celebrating the band Slayer. I’m a huge Slayer-head, always have been. By the time I figured out it was TAXslayer it was too late, I’d already responded ‘accepted’ to the email and started blasting Raining Blood.”
It is clear that the Kentucky Football team has ignored the advice of all ‘stick to sports’ internet commenters and decided to use their first bowl game since 2011 to make a political statement. After all, nothing says having a conservative New Year’s Eve like Jacksonville, Florida.
