Local grandmother and Lexington’s lone ABC 36 watcher Mildred Rogers received a pleasant surprise Sunday afternoon when her grandson Caleb paid an unexpected visit to her residence at Morning Pointe Senior Living. However, unbeknownst to Mildred, Caleb was not there of his own accord or even at the behest of his parents, but was instead there playing Pokémon Go, a recently released augmented reality game for mobile devices.

“Honestly I had no idea that Meemaw Mildred lived here,” said a sweaty, and out of breath Caleb. “Me and some of my friends were just playing Pokémon Go across the street at Jacobson Park.  I’ve never been to one before, but I guess it’s where trees are born? We walked around everywhere, and my buddy Troy even went out on a paddleboat to catch one.  But it was pretty picked over, then I noticed this building across the street that I had never seen before, and it looked like there was a lot of Poké-activity taking place, so I decided to have a look.”

While his grandmother was eager to offer Caleb some hard candy, he seemed more interested in catching hard-shell Pokémon.

“Caleb’s always been my favorite grandson,” explained Mildred, “because he’s the only one that’s ever visited me. I’m just glad his phone was working, because it never seems to work when I try to call him.”

While Mildred was pleased at the rare site of a relative, Caleb was pleased with his haul for the afternoon.

“Yeah, overall I’m pretty happy with today’s results,” said Caleb. “This nursing home is just filled to the brim with candy and stardust. My only complaint is that the Pokémon here all smell bad.”
