Rod Hatfield Chevrolet has some new competition directly across the street, as rival car dealer McCoy Mazda is set to open its doors this week. The move has many in Lexington concerned that the more than century old Hatfield-McCoy blood feud may now be renewed between the dueling car dealerships.
“Right now things are still pretty calm,” said a source close to Rod Hatfield Chevrolet. “But if McCoy Mazda starts making super annoying radio jingles to the tune of last summer’s biggest pop hits, all bets are off.”
The now world famous Hatfield-McCoy feud originated on the Kentucky-West Virginia border in the late 1800s, and only ended when the Hatfields decided to move to Lexington and sell used cars for the lowest prices around. Now that the McCoys are making their foray into the bloody world of no money down, same as cash car sales, the feud could become heated once again.
“Tensions haven’t been this high since the families were on those episodes of Family Feud in the late seventies,” said a spokesman for the McCoy family.
The Hatfields may already be making a preemptive strike, as there are rumors they have hired Hollywood actor Kevin Costner for a mini-series of advertisements. Normally the McCoys would hope to counter that by hiring Bill Paxton, but the late actor’s untimely death may mean they have to hire Bill Pullman instead.
