Saturday’s Bluegrass Stakes headlined an action-packed opening weekend at Keeneland, and 3-year-olds from around the world made their final attempts to qualify for next month’s Kentucky Derby. Bright skies and warm temperatures made for great conditions for fans in attendance, but there was cause for concern when it was discovered that one of the 3-year-olds was being kept in a hot trailer.
Worried for the safety of the 3-year-old, we asked around to get the details.
“It’s a horse,” said some sort of fancily dressed magician employed at Keeneland. “It’s a three-year old horse, not a child, and it’s being kept in a trailer that’s built to hold horses.”
Still concerned, we continued to search for answers about the dire situation that a 3-year-old may or may not have been involved in.
“Yeah, I mean it’s pretty standard to keep the horses in trailers before we bring them to the stables,” said a woman with a plaid shirt carrying a bucket filled with horse shampoo and water. “There’s definitely no reason for concern.”
As you can see, the people we asked were very evasive when it came to the status of the 3-year-old. While we’re unable to prove anything sinister took place at this time, we’ll continue to stay vigilant. 3-year-olds being left in trailers is definitely concerning, and we’ve also heard rumors that there may be other 3-year-olds at Keeneland being fed nothing but hay and sugar cubes.
